I am switching my blog from Typepad to WordPress. You will notice a change in template, but most everything should work fine during the transition. I am actually thinking of using WordPress to rebuild my website. But I will probably do my own install on my server. Anyway, enjoy some new posts…on the new blog…

Adventures in NYC: Wednesday 7/19/06

On Wednesday I slept in a bit before heading out for a walk down 8th Ave to Macy’s and the H&M down by 34th St. Even though Federated Department Stores have pretty much bought everything and made them all Macy’s, there’s nothing like the original Macy’s that inspired Miracle on 34th St. and the host of the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. Wednesday night saw the first introductory general session of the Star Power real estate conference. i ran into an old friend from Charlotte, NC- Kelli Sheppe- who I met at the Listing University in Charlotte in September 2005. Then I went back to the room and called Rob back in Indianapolis and went to bed early.

At the end of July, I went to New York City for the Howard Brinton Star Power Annual Conference. It’s a conference where a bunch of real estate agents from all over the country (and some from Canada and lands beyond) get together and share ideas that are working and what isn’t working and talk about the business and do their best to make it better for everyone involved. So, I took off from Indianapolis and flew into Laguardia where I was greeted with this cheery welcome:

I then got a cab to my hotel and ordered a burger from room service before catching a cab downtown to Kleinfeld to try on wedding dresses. I had a hard time communicating what I wanted to my bridal consultant Brooke, because I didn’t really know what i wanted. i don’t know if I do now, although I do have a way better idea than when I walked in there. I do not want a huge dress. I would like some bling, but not crazy fairy tale style bling.

After my appointment was over, I headed back to the hotel where I did my nails and it thunderstormed outside. It was so cozy in the Heavenly Bed. I almost didn’t want to leave when Jon called. Jon was kind enough to host me at Happy Valley. It was dance music, people watching, and hospitable people sharing drink tickets and bottle service. A good time was had by all (including the Fischerspooner dudes) and I called it a night due to having to get up kind of early the next morning. I did stop to pee on the way out though and encountered this lovely disco toilet.

Jimmy and Beth had a beautiful wedding in lovely South Bend. The Impalas kept everyone dancing at the reception. There were 4 toasts! Everyone had so much fun! The newlyweds are in Italy for two weeks right now. I’m sure they are having a ball!

You can see the whole set of pictures that Rob and I took when not doing our usher and bridesmaid duties.

Mike and Diana’s professional wedding pictures are up (for those of you in the family who visit here to see what’s going on- even if I rarely post). Go to Pictage and in the search box under "Find an event" type in "Leep". Pick the Event that says "Leep and Radomille Wedding", not the one that says "haydee leep prints". It will ask you for your name and email for the guestbook (I believe you have to register to see them) and then you’ll see the wedding pics. They are divided into sections like Reception, Formals, Rehearsal and Ceremony. You’ll have to use the menu to check out eah section. Their photographer was Jennifer Angeloro and her team and Jennifer and her assistants did a wonderful job!

You can also order prints direct from Pictage, so if you were there and there’s a cute shot of you that you want, you can order it direct from the site.

You can also check out Rob’s pictures from the wedding on my Flickr pages. Actually, I’ve been using Flickr to upload most of my pictures. So if you want to see the most recent pictures from my life, I would bookmark my photos on Flickr. If you are registered witb Yahoo! Photos or Flickr, you can order prints from Flickr and pick them up at your local Target.

I think the most recent pictures on my Flickr page are from Dylan’s First Birthday. So scoot on over there and take a look!

ETA: And again, another blog post, where I tell you about blogs that I read instead of writing one of my own. It wasn’t intentional! Maybe I’ll Start a series Called “Blogs I Read When I Should Be Writing One for You”
So, my amazing artist, new friend, and wedding phtographer- Jessica Strickand took some awesome new pictures of me for some print and ad things I have in the pipeline for the real estate business. She is totally awesome and I cannot recommend her enough. You can see a few more pictures on her blog.
Here’s one for a preview (don’t worry Jessica, I uploaded a copy on my own, so I am not leeching your bandwidth):

I visit Jessica’s blog and the blog of my OTHER wedding photographers, Stacy and Mary, on a weekly basis. They totally rock out too. They are photographing our wedding rehearsal dinner festivities at the zoo. They (and their work- and to be fair, I haven’t actually met Stacy yet) are way amazing too- just a different kind of amazing!
I am so lucky to know and have been acquainted with so many talented people. The world is beautiful enough just looking at it through my own eyes on most days, but knowing lots of talented artists, musicians, and photographers just make the world seem even cooler and life even better sometimes. I am such a cornball nerd.

Happy Father’s Day!

So, I know everyone else is probably like, “Oh man. Where have you been?” But I will blog about my adventures later*. First and foremost is to unveil my dad’s Father’s Day present.
I volunteered at an art event on Friday night. Basically, the paintings compete with each other and the losers are met with destruction unless they are saved by a philanthropic patron of the arts. It’s called Art vs. Art. It’s an annual event and it’s attended by lots of different people from all walks of life.
So, I saw a painting there that was going to be destroyed if I didn’t buy it, and I picked it out for my dad because…1.) He likes art. 2.) He likes planes. 3.) It’s blue and gold. 4.) I just thought he’d like it.
So, the painting that is my gift to my father is:

A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall

So, yesterday, Indiana’s first day on Daylight Savings Time was a doozy. It’s messing with my circadian rhythm a little, as my body thinks it’s an hour earlier than what it is. This is most evident when it comes to my sleep habits. I had a really hard time getting to bed last night. And waking up this morning was tough. My body just hasn’t adjusted yet. I think tomorrow I will just have to force it to adjust at the expense of my energy. I had no issues otherwise though.
Last night was crazy with the rain. The free concert on the circle had just ended when the storms hit. Lots of stuff spewed around. Rob called me because it was a little hairy and he was checking in. It blew out some windows and did some major damage to the Regions Bank building downtown. You can see some pictures of the aftermath here at the IndyStar.com website. My power was flickering, but never went out. I had unplugged my computer and hard drives from the wall. I didn’t trust my surge protector.
Not really much going on here. Selling houses, running speed dating events, and planning the wedding. It’s going well. We have the band now. Yay! Going up to Chicago for a seminar next week. Crashing on Dave and Jenny’s couch in Evanston the night before so the drive isn’t terrible.

My New Puppy

So, Rob got me an electric blue Nintendo DS for my birthday with Nintendogs and a couple other games. Nintendogs is so awesome. It’s basically a virtual pet ownership simulation game. Your puppy always stays a puppy and it doesn’t die or age. You have to train it and teach it tricks and take it out for walks. And to earn money to buy supplies like food and water and shampoo, you have to enter the dog in Frisbee, Agility, and/or Obedience Competitions. When you go on walks you can encounter other dogs that your dog may or may not like, and you can find presents, like accessories such as different colored collars or sunglasses for your dog. When you’re walking the dog, and he poops, you have to pick up the poop. It is so stinkin’ cute!

This is my Pembroke Welsh Corgi and only dog, Scooter. Isn’t he adorable? He loves belly rubs and playing with the soccer ball. I’ve taught him to sit, lie down, roll over on his side, and roll over on his back and give me his belly. he even won first place in his first frisbee competition!
